Upon our return to the guest home the city water had been restored but our pump had failed. In most Lima homes there are two cisterns and a pump. The city water is pumped into the ground level cistern via city pressure. Then the pump lifts the water onto the cistern on the roof. Then the water in the house is gravity fed. Since our pump failed the roof cistern would empty. So the men manually filled the roof cistern by running water in buckets and containers. It took a while but we were able to fill it for flushing. Chris and Colten did most of the stair work running full buckets. They did a great job. Colten even learned a new verse, “It is good for a man to bear the yoke in his youth.”

Ivan and Tim from Rachel’s school were very helpful. They showed up at about 10:30pm and replaced the pump and a solenoid. We were back in business. It was good experience even if not entirely pleasant.
