What jumps out about the ministry here in Mbarara region?  Hands down the answer to that question is the growing number of men who are passionate about reaching their community for Christ.  We have been blessed to meet many of the Godly men who are stepping into leadership positions at every level.  Rod spoke with Sylvia today and discovered that of the five churches established in the territory four of them have their own pastor.  Two church plants are currently underway and another church plant endeavor will be launched next month.   We have found that every pastor has two or three Timothy’s with him assisting in the work.  Some of these men lead the music, organize AWANA ministries, make visits or just fill the pulpit.  All these men receive their training at the Bible Institute that was established by Russ.  They currently have 22 (men and women) enrolled in the program.  This vital ministry provides the backbone of the Daniels ongoing work in this southwest region.

This afternoon I had the privilege of speaking to 18 men and 3 women about how to help people grow and change.   We had some lively discussions about whether or not the Bible has all the answers for life.   It was a joy to see the lights come on and their confidence in the Bible grow.  We also talked about how to grow and change in tangible ways.  Rod shared about the role of the deacon and how men could help their pastor in practical ways.  Email addresses were exchanged and photos were taken.  Personal words of encouragement were offered to specific pastors who are facing difficult ministry circumstances.  I personally find these moments very moving.   But I’m thankful that in some strange way we know that God has done something special in our short time together.  Goodbye’s like this are tough.

Looking forward to a reunion with these good men.
